The first Oktoberfest was held in October 1810 in Munich, Germany, in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese. The celebration lasted a full week. Over several years, the festival expanded to several weeks.  Because Bavaria tends to get chilly in October, the festival was moved forward into September. To this day, Bavaria’s three week Oktoberfest begins in September and ends the first Sunday in October.

Friday, September 25th began its Saint Charles Oktoberfest Festival.   Activities such as, the Antique Car show took place on Historical Main Street Saint Charles.  While, the Saint Charles Oktoberfest 5K and Root Beer 1 Mile Fun Run Sponsored by SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital  & JDRF One Walk, St. Charles, was held in Frontier Park.

Timberland High School Art Club was excited to be a part of the St. Charles County Oktoberfest again this year. Through the last six years, Art Club and the Timberland Art Department has painted all of the decorations in the Children's area called the Pumpkin Happening. They have painted the grand entrance to the festival along with numerous cut-outs for festival goers to take pictures. They have also created a massive sculpture from pumpkins ever year.   After taking the pumpkin sculpture to new heights last year with their 12' 6" tall giraffe, they decided on three different sculptures this year with the theme “Lion, Tiger, and Bear, Oh My!”. Current students, alumni and parents help in this sculpting event, which is led by art teacher, Crystal Wing!
