What does the business do?
Aprils on Main offers complete home accessories, furnishings, and interior design.  Forty-Five Hundred square-feet of home accessories, and gifts. Its a little bit of everything from lotions and soaps,  to jewelry, to artwork and furniture.
When did you start the business?
April's On Main was established June 1, 2014.

What did it take to get the business started?
A great business plan.  Feldewerth said it took her about three months from the start of her business planning to get the doors of April's on Main open.  .

How long did it take to make profits and why?
I've only been in business a little longer than a year so I would say I'm just about breaking even as far as profits.

Why did you choose to start your own business?

It takes a lot to start your own business when you have a large inventory, rent and a staff of eight, it takes a little bit to recoup the money you've invested. I chose to start my business after I had ran my uncles for over 22 years. I thought with all of the hard work I was putting into it, I might as will do it for myself.

What are you responsibilities?
My responsibilities include a lot:  staffing, ordering, paying bills, checking in merchandise, displaying items in the store, to going to people's house and decorating. The responsibilities are endless and as an owner you often find out that you get to do everything. I get to enjoy the customers, but I also get to unload semi trucks full of merchandise and take out the trash.

What are some of the problems/risks you're faced while running your business?

I think the problems and risk that you face and starting your own business are plentiful. You have to worry about will people come to your store? Will the economy be able to support you? Are you going to be able to afford all the bills? Are you going to pick the right things that your customers are wanting? There are so many risks you take, but you have to believe in yourself. I feel that believing in myself was half battle and that is why I will be successful.

What are some of the benefits of owning your own business and running it?

Some of the benefits of owning your own business are you get to be your own boss. I don't often get to take a day off, but if I want one I do not have to explain it to anybody. I also get the satisfaction of making my customers happy. I often find many people come in my store just to tell me they needed to smile, they wanted to see something beautiful. I have a lot of customers that I've become my friends, which is also a real benefit.

What are some recommendations you would give to someone who was trying to start their own business?
One the most important recommendations I would give someone who's willing to start a business is to know that you have to give a lot of yourself. Not only am I here every day from open to close, I often find myself coming in an hour before we open and doing paperwork late into the night. For at least the first couple years you have to totally throw yourself into your job.

Do you enjoy what you do?

 I absolutely enjoy what I do, if I didn't I shouldn't be doing it.

Why do you enjoy it?

.I love interacting with customers.  Helping customers find that perfect item there looking for whether its a gift for their husband, a perfect chair in their living room, or maybe just a sense of the lotion.  I love meeting new people.

Do you also support other small businesses?

I'm all about supporting other small businesses. It is so hard for a small businesses to compete with large box stores. I try to work with others and giving a discount if they shop local. I always encourage them to visit other shops in the area, often pointing out special features that they offer.

Anything else you would like to add about your experience as a business owner?

Even though owning a business is a lot of work, you should always find satisfaction in it.

Anything else you would like to add about your experience with your business?

Along with getting to meet great people, and getting to work with beautiful things, I also get to work with my mother and family. To me that is irreplaceable.
